“MARY STUART” CLOSES THIS WEEKEND

Garland, Texas, February 10, 2009 — Performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be the last for a stunning production of Friedrich von Schiller’s “Mary Stuart” at Garland Civic Theatre. Another production will open on Broadway shortly. Performances are at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland. Tickets which are $19 to $20 with discounts for youth, seniors, and groups can be ordered by calling 972-205-2790. Please note that some of the performance times have changed. Thursday evening shows are now at 7:30 PM and all matinees are at 2:30 PM. The Friday and Saturday evening times remain at 8:00 PM. The Arts Center box office is open week days 10 to 4. There is a convenience charge of $1 per ticket. On performance days the box office opens 2 hours before each performance. Ride DART to the theatre, show your KERA membership card or college student ID and get a discount on your ticket.

The cast features Patty Granville as Queen Elizabeth I, Peyton Hayslip as Mary of Scotland, and Julie T. Penkava as Mary’s attendant. Men in the cast include Gregory Phillips as Robert Dudley, R. Andrew Aguilar as Lord Burleigh, Jerry Young as Shrewsbury, and Braden Herndon as Mortimer. Charles Maxham plays both Amias Paulet and Count Aubespine and DeWayne Blundell is Davison and O’Kelly. Kyle McClaran directed the show and designed the set. Celeste Rogers designed the costumes and Paul Arnold designed the lighting.

The play is by turns a testament to human bravery and personal dignity, a conflict between personal and political responsibility, and a struggle between womanhood and statesmanship where Mary triumphs at one and Elizabeth the other. The power and bravura of this heroic drama are triumphantly theatrical! This is a tale of giants what will leave you sitting on the edge of your theatre seat! You’ll be sorry if you miss this theatrical masterpiece.
