GARLAND, TEXAS -- Garland Civic Theatre will present Big River the Tony Award winning musical based Mark Twain’s novel, “Huckleberry Finn”, by Roger Miller. Performances are scheduled at the small theatre in the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth in downtown Garland for October 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, and 28 at 8:00 PM and October 8, 15, 22, and 28 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 972-205-2790. Ticket prices are $21 to $25, depending on the performance. Discounts are available for those over 60 and under 18. Special prices are also available for groups of 15 or more. Be aware that there is a processing charge of $1 per ticket.
The production will be directed by Charles Ballinger. The music director will be Carey Litchford, and the choreographer will be Steve Beene. The cast includes Jonathan Metting as Huckleberry Finn, D. Dean as Jim, Burl Proctor as The King, and S. Russell Vaden as The Duke. Also in the large ensemble are Gene DuBose, Laurie Johnson, Jan Roeton, Tom Grugle, Jackie Kemp, Delynda Johnson-Morovec, Julia McFerrin, Nikki Britten, Kimberly Mickle, Jack Perl, Angela Basolo, Lindsay Sawyer, Sherna Armstrong, Tom Armistead, Kelli Parmenter, Jeanie Runion, Jarvon Hughes, Quincy Jones, and Marilyn Twyman. Twain’s timeless classic sweeps you down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a runway slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming, bringing to life your favorite characters from the novel, the Widow Douglas and her sister, Miss Watson; the uproarious King and Duke; Huck’s partner in crime, Tom Sawyer, and their rowdy gang of pals; Huck’s drunken father, the sinister Pap Finn; the lovely Mary Jane Wilkes and her trusting family.
