Garland Civic Theatre is proud to be the first amateur company to be granted the rights to produce "Cats."CATS ADOPTED AT “CATS” PERFORMANCE GARLAND, TEXAS – The Dallas SPCA brought five of their population of adoptable cats to the matinee performance of Garland Civic Theatre’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” on Sunday, April 23. All five orphaned cats soon found new homes one of which was with Celeste Youngblood, a member of the cast. “Cats”, the world’s best known musical, opened for a four week run this weekend at the Granville Arts Center in Garland. Kyle McClaran who is the artistic director for Garland Civic Theatre directed the production. He also designed the costumes and makeup. The outstanding cast of dancers and singers includes Don Berger as Gus, Charlet Dupar as Jellylorom, Amanda Durbin as Victoria, Haley Ewrez as Pouncival, Lauren Garrity as Jemima, Carlos Gomez as Mr. Mistoffolees, Patty Granville as Grizabella, Bonnie Grugle as Etcetera, Tom Grugle as Alonzo, Chandler Houston as Exotica, Christian Houston as Rumpleteaser, Ivan Jones as Monkustrap, Dani Martin as Cassandra, Jana McGill as Bombalurina, Jessye Prather as Demeter, Steven Shayle Rhodes as Bustopher Jones, Darius Robinson as Rum Tum Tugger, Brad Smith as Deuteronomy, Jeff Walters as Mongojerry, Katie West as Corocopat, Wendy Wilshire as Skimbleshanks, Echo Wilson as Rumpus Cat, Joann Traylor as Jennyanydots, and Celeste Youngblood as Tantomile. Morgana Shaw did the chorography for the production. Mary Loy leads the music. Jim Cox designed the set, Laura McMeley designed the lighting. The awards that “Cats” has won include: the 1981 Laurence Olivier awards for Musical of the Year, the Evening Standard award for Best Musical and seven 1982/83 Tony awards including Best Musical, the much-coveted Moliere Prize for Best Musical in France, seven out of ten Dora Mavor Moore awards including Best Musical in Canada and seven awards in Japan. “Cats” has been translated into ten languages and performed the world over. Now Garland Civic Theatre is proud to be the first amateur company to be granted the rights to produce it. Performances will be April 27, 28, 29, May 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 at 8:00 PM and April 30, May 7, and 13 at 2:00 PM in the small theatre at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland, Texas. Tickets are $19.00 to $20.00 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups. Call the box office at the arts center, 972-205-2790, to pruchase tickets. Be aware that the arts center adds a service charge. Show your DART Rail ticket to receive a discount when you buy your ticket before the performance. The box office opens 2 hours before each performance. Garland Civic Theatre, a member of Dallas Theatre League and Texas Non-profit Theatres, is enjoying its 38th season of theatre in Garland.
