The Robe John McGreevy’s classic biblical epic The Robe will be Garland Civic Theatre’s annual fundraiser, replacing La Cage Aux Folles. Performances are February 7 and 12-14 at 8:00 p.m.; and February 7,14 at 2:00 p.m., 2004, in the Main Auditorium at the Granville Arts Center, Fifth and Austin Streets in downtown Garland. Tickets are available at the Granville Arts Center Box Office or by calling 972-205-2790. A Roman soldier, Marcellus, wins Christ's robe as a gambling prize. He then sets forth on a quest to find the truth about the Nazarene's robe—a quest that reaches to the very roots and heart of Christianity and is set against the vividly depicted background of ancient Rome. Here is a timeless story of adventure, faith, and romance, a tale of spiritual longing and ultimate redemption. This biblical epic powerfully and dramatically tells the story of the aftermath of the crucifixion, the resurrection and the life ever after. If you have an organization or church that would like to “partner” with Garland Civic Theatre and raise funds at the same time, give the GCT office a call. We are offering the opportunity for your church or organization to purchase a “block” of seats for a performance at a substantial discount and then your group sells the tickets for the price that you determine and the difference is your organizations to keep. Minimum “block” is 50 seats. Call the GCT office at 972-485-8884 for more information. The Robe is directed by Kyle McClaran, GCT Artistic Director. Auditions will be held December 13 at 14, 2003 from 1-5 PM. Please call 972-485-8884 for an appointment and information. Whether to auditions, rehearsals or performances - “Ride the DART Rail to the Granville Arts Center, visit DART.org.” Season sponsors are Raytheon, the Garland Cultural Arts Commission and the Dallas Morning News.
