CHILDREN ON STAGE TO PRESENT “THE SLEEPING BEAUTY”

Garland Civic Theatre’s Children On Stage division will present The Sleeping Beauty, a play based on the familiar story dramatized by Charlotte B. Chorpenning. School performances will be February 28 – March 2 with public performances on March 3 and 4 in the main theatre at Granville Arts Center, Austin and Fifth Street, Garland, Texas. Teachers can reserve space for field trips on the website, garlandcivictheatre.org. Tickets for the public performances can be purchased at the Arts Center Box Office by calling 972-205-2790. Ticket prices are $5 to $12. There is a service fee of $1 per ticket.

Morgana Shaw, the director, has announced the cast of youngsters which includes Kyle Matthew Wisdom of Mesquite as Elano, Ally Karpel of Garland as Beauty, Michael DeStefano as King, Morgan Manuel as Queen, Irvin Moreno as Gort, Mackenzie Theall as Ella, Matthew Melone as Norbert, Hannah Browning as Una, Breanna Chilcote and Freona, Ivanna L. Williams as Cordia, Beth Woodall as Belita, and Rebecca Combs as Frytania. Members of the Royal Court include Jenna Pickering, Matt Bautista, Brittany Bunch, Kyle Phillips, Jade Reyes, and Renee Wheldon. Cast members are from Garland, Plano, DeSoto, Rowlett, Mesquite, Murphy, Rockwall, Sachse, Wylie, Richardson, and Dallas.

This charming version of the beloved story is full of beautiful imagery. Watch the lovely Beauty, who was cursed by the wicked fairy on her christening day, fall into a deep sleep and await the kiss of the handsome Prince. Will he make it through the thicket around the castle? Will she wake and live “Happily Ever After”? You won’t want to miss this beautifully dramatic retelling of the classic fairy tale.
